The North American Baptists (formerly the German Baptist Convention) are only one of many Baptist conferences in North America, but we mostly all believe the same doctrine. The NAB was formed by German Baptist immigrants. First German Baptist Church was formed in Philadelphia by Konrad Fleischman. Today it is Fleischman Baptist Church. The conference changed its name to North American Baptist Conference in 1917 and stopped speaking German.
The first congregation in Southern California was a German speaking group ministering to the German immigrants in Anaheim. Today, the congregation is called Bethel Baptist Church and is largely a Romanian speaking congregation.
